Albay health team eyes fogging in Rapu-Rapu

The provincial health office sanitation team is set to conduct a fogging next week in Rapu-Rapu town following reports of at least 30 cases of dengue there.

Fogging, a process wherein chemicals are dispersed to penetrate deep plants, is designed to kill or knock down any adult mosquitoes that may be carrying the Dengue virus.

Dr. Nathaniel Rempillo, provincial health officer of Albay said that just for the past two weeks, Rapu-Rapu has recorded 30 cases of dengue.

Of the 30 cases, one was recorded dead but Rempillo clarified that they are still investigating whether it was actually caused by the virus.

“That's actually a sanitation problem. Maybe, residents there are still unable to do or comply with our [health] advocacies—those that are required for them to do," Rempillo said.

“Which is why we are forming 'Barangay Dengue Brigades'. In one month, we have continuous trainings and seminars and the budget for that will be directly from the Department of Health," he added.

Aside from this, they advised the public to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness in the environment especially with the onset of the rainy season where waterborne diseases and respiratory illnesses are commonly acquired.

“Let's strengthen our nutrition by eating fruits and vegetables, adequate sleeping hours, and healthy lifestyle," he said.
